University of Vermont Medical Center
Inpatient Psychiatrist

The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont and The University of Vermont Medical Center are seeking a full-time faculty psychiatrist at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to join an enthusiastic team of professionals at The University of Vermont Medical Center. This 400-bed university-based general hospital includes a 28-bed state-of-the-art adult psychiatry inpatient unit. The hospital is the principal teaching site for residents and medical students at The Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine at the University of Vermont.

The successful candidate will be a psychosomatic medicine-trained psychiatrist, whose main focus will be to provide consultation to other medical specialties. Duties include leadership of the mental health component of a complex/chronic pain program. In addition, the candidate will participate in the Psychiatry Consultation Service and provide outpatient psychiatry consultations as part of the Medical Home Primary Psychiatry program an embedded specialty service for primary care clinicians. The time commitment breaks down to approximately 25% inpatient psychiatry consultations, 25% outpatient psychiatry consultations, and 50% pain management and medication-assisted treatment.

The Inpatient Psychiatry Consultation Service is a team of four attending psychiatrists that consult to all medical and surgical services at the hospital, including pediatrics, and is staffed by an attending psychiatrist with subspecialty qualifications in Psychosomatic Medicine. General psychiatry residents spend three months, full-time on the service, which also hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, PA students, and other interested learners.

The selected candidate will demonstrate the training and expertise to provide direct patient care, collaborate with other professional disciplines, and work with referring agencies and providers. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for supervision and teaching of house officers, medical students, and other staff. An appreciation of the importance of and satisfaction from performing these critical functions and an ability to work collaboratively are essential. Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified (preferably) or board eligible in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine.
